Happy 4th of July!

4 years of war and we're still celebrating our country with explosions.

"I believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival... it ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games; sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other..."

-John Adams, in a letter to his wife, Abigail, on celebrating Independence Day

I think its time we stopped celebrating our liberation from England.

Is it me or are fireworks just played out? I find them really...booooooooriiing.

I like celebrating the 4th!
It is a good time to bring all of the different folks from lands that make up this crazy country!

I rode my bike to Astoria Park [for NO view of the fireworks, FYI], where it was a lot of fun to hear the different languages of a variety of folks as they settled in trying to get a good spot to see the colors in the sky.
I must say, the giggle of childern as they run to see the fireworks, needs no translation!

I saw a lot of fireworks from BK the other day, but there was a conspicuous lack of the pomp that John Adams had hoped for.

Where has all the pomp gone? I want pomp! You just don't see it anymore. Perhaps it was a victim of circumstance.

And that's my corny joke for the day!
