In my comedy writing class, I learned something called "the rule of ten". Meaning for every ten jokes you write, nine will be thrown away.
Ben Schwartz doesn't do that. He's a freelance writer for SNL's Weekend Update and David Letterman and when his jokes don't get used, he does them himself.
